How To Remove Oil Stains From Clothing & Fabric

Last night, the dinner was delectable at the party, but did you notice the oil stain that appeared on your expensive dress when you were enjoying mutton curry? Certainly, the thought of staining your favorite outfit doesn’t let you to sleep. After all, you got copious compliments for that lovely dress. Commercial products designed to remove oil from clothing have flooded the markets, but usually these products not give satisfactory results and sometimes, we are afraid to use them as they contain chemicals which might prove harsh on your delicate clothing. Let go all your worries because removing oil based stains from fabric was never easy before this. Whether it’s a stain of cooking, automotive or lubricating oil, you can use this easy tip to get grease off your clothes.Things Required

  • Talcum Powder (or Cornstarch)
  • Liquid Detergent (or Dish Detergent)

Directions

  • To begin with, take the affected garment/ fabric and spread it on a flat surface with the oil based stain facing upside.
  • Now, sprinkle good amount of talcum powder or cornstarch over the stain.
  • Allow the powder to rest there for some hours or even overnight.
  • After the due time, brush off the excess powder.
  • In case you find oily powder residue on the fabric, rub it off and pour the powder once again and let the fabric to rest.  
  • Once you’ve finished this, wash or dry clean your fabric as you always do.
  • After washing, examine the spot sooner than placing the garment in the dryer.
  • In case the oil spot is still present, you can rub alcohol over it to get your clothes all new again. Remember that alcohol can also lift the color, so it’s better to test it in an inconspicuous spot before using. 

Tips

  • This method can be used on any and every type of fabric.
  • Warm or hot water is always preferable for washing such fabric.
  • Ensure you scrape off all powder from the fabric before dry cleaning.  
  • Dish detergent can be utilized for washing since molecules in such liquids are prepared to trap oil.
  • The earlier you deal with an oil stain; the better would be the outcome.

How To Remove Oil Stains From A Concrete Floor

Removing oil off concrete floor or cement driveways is the most pathetic situation one can land into. Luckily, there are several commercial products in the markets that are designed to clean the concrete floors, driveways, and sidewalks. Nearly all of these products unluckily contain acid, giving a sufficient reason to the consumers not to use commercial degreaser as they might cause harm. Things Required

  • Ready-to-mix Cements
  • Sawdust or Kitty Litters 

Directions

  • To start with, take fresh sawdust or kitty litter and spread a thick layer of it over the stain as this will suck up excess grease or oil on the surface.
  • Have patience and let the sawdust or kitty litter to rest there for one or two days.  
  • After the due time, sweep away the sawdust or kitty litter from the surface.
  • Now, pour dry cement over the dried oil spot and cover it completely. 
  • Once again, let the cement to rest there for one or two days.
  • Next, sweep away the cement.
  • At last, collectthe cement in a bag and throw it in the garbage bin. Do not let the cement go down the sewer as it can choke it. 

Tips

  • To get best results, degrease the stains as and when they come into sight.
  • The grease on the surface is sucked up by the kitty litter or sawdust, whereas the stain is absorbed by the dry cement.
  • To avoid further stains, use large automotive drip pans for leaking vehicles.
